GRISTMILL DAY
A
brand new old fashioned gristmill was created at the Agriculture
and Forestry Museum in Courtland, Virginia recently, and was
demonstrated to the public on April 10, 1999. The mill was built
by Ed Johnson, a retired local miller with over 40 years of
experience, along with the help of a dozen or more volunteers and several local
businesses. It is visually and operationally a work of art. It is
complemented by a12 by 40 foot mural of a millpond scene,
beautifully painted by George Edwards and his daughter Connie.

Here, Ed is testing the
meal as it comes out of the spout.

This view shows some of
the detail of the woodwork, as well
as the beautiful
background artwork.

This view shows a little
of the foreground, but not enough to
really appreciate the
fine landscaping. I guess the photographer
couldn't keep his eyes
off of the mill :-)

Here is a view of some
of the crowd that showed up for Gristmill
Day. This is in a
recently built addition to the grounds of the museum.
