KEN CHRISTISON'S MILL
We have a 16"
Williams mill that was purchased from Bud Endicott
of Vaughan, NC. He didn't know any history
of the mill, so we are
in the dark as to what this mill has been
through. I do know that it was
in great shape and all we had to do to get
it ready to use was clean it up,
repair one skid, and repaint it. We really
enjoy showing the mill and talking
to folks who recall grandfathers, uncles
or neighbors who used to grind corn
for the neighborhood. Much like the
sorghum mills, these were probably scattered
about so a person didn't have to travel
too far to get his corn or wheat ground to
meal or flour. We usually have two or
three kinds of corn shellers and a small
hand corn grinder in the display. This
keeps the youngsters interested, since if
it has a crank on it, it is hard to resist
turning it. We use our 7 horsepower Alamo
hit and miss engine to power the mill.
This enables us to enjoy our engine and get
some practical use out of it. These two
views were taken from a video tape, so are
not as good as I would like. Hopefully I
will correct this soon.
